At many construction sites, the generator is selected correctly, heaters too, and yet everything stops. Reason? Fuel. More precisely: lack of plan for its delivery and storage.
Fuel logistics is not "we will fill when it runs out"
The most common mistake is thinking that fuel will always "somehow be delivered". On construction site, "somehow" means work interruption, nerves and losses.
Fuel logistics includes:
- amount of fuel needed per day and per week,
- storage method,
- delivery availability,
- safety and site organization.
Without this, even the best generator or heater won't fulfill its role.
Where do we start planning?
Always from actual consumption, not from tank capacity.
In practice, we analyze:
- • generator power and operating time,
- • number of heaters and their load,
- • operating mode: continuous or interrupted,
- • work schedule.
Based on this, we determine:
- • daily fuel demand,
- • minimum tank capacity,
- • delivery frequency.
One tank or several smaller ones?
It depends on construction organization, not on price.
In practice:
- • one larger tank works with stable operation and good access,
- • several smaller ones provide flexibility when equipment is scattered or terrain changes.
Poorly selected configuration means:
- • additional fuel transfers,
- • risk of errors,
- • loss of service time.
Safety and availability – often overlooked
A tank placed "anywhere" will sooner or later become a problem.
In planning, we consider:
- access for tanker truck,
- safe refueling zones,
- protection from mechanical damage,
- possibility of quick equipment service.
This is particularly important in winter and with 24/7 operation.
Fuel logistics and work continuity
The best planned logistics is one that no one notices – because everything works.
Well-designed system:
- eliminates sudden downtime,
- allows focusing on work,
- limits costs of emergency deliveries,
- increases safety on construction site.
Practice instead of improvisation
That's why we always treat fuel logistics as an element of entire technical facility – together with generators, heaters and work schedule.
